What is a Patient Participation Group?

A Patient Participation Group (PPG) is a group of patients who work in partnership with their GP practice to help improve services and ensure that patient voices are heard. PPGs are voluntary and include a mix of patients and practice staff, often meeting regularly to discuss issues related to patient care, accessibility, and quality of service.

Purpose of a PPG

- Patient advocacy: PPGs allow patients to provide feedback on services, ensuring the practice understands patient needs and experiences.

- Improving practice services: Members may help identify ways to enhance communication, appointment systems, waiting areas, or health promotion activities.

- Promoting health education: PPGs often organize events, workshops, or information campaigns to improve community awareness on health issues.

- Support for practice initiatives: PPGs work alongside practice staff to consult on new initiatives, policies, or service changes, ensuring they reflect patient priorities.

Benefits of PPGs

- For patients: Opportunity to influence services, stay informed about practice developments, and participate in health improvement initiatives.

- For GP practices: Offers a channel for structured patient feedback, fosters stronger community relationships, and can lead to improved patient satisfaction.

- For the community: Encourages engagement in health projects and promotes education and awareness of public health issues.
